Amazing Blueberry Almond Breeze Protein Shake "Blizzard"......all for 3.5 Points!

Having a protein shake for breakfast isn't a new thing for me; I generally have two of them every week.  Each summer I freeze lots of blueberries, strawberries, blackberries, raspberries and mango chunks for these yummy "shakes".   I use either  1 cup of skim milk or Almond Breeze, 3/4 cup of frozen fruit and a scoop of Sisu French vanilla whey protein and whip it up in the blender.   Sometimes I throw in 1/2 a banana as well especially if I'm making a strawberry "shake".  Strawberry and banana is such a classic combination.

Well..........today I had a brain storm and decided to add a tablespoon of natural wheat bran to the mix for extra fiber and here's what I got...........

.......it was the best one yet and it kept me full until well after lunch time today so I'm going to be adding natural bran to all of them from now on.  The bran expanded and made my normally thick protein shake super thick; almost like a DQ Blizzard.  No kidding you could have eaten it with a spoon.  Of course, if you don't like the spots (blueberry and bran spots) you could blend it longer until they were gone but I kind of liked the way it looked and it felt more like a Blizzard somehow.

Did you know that skim milk will whip like cream whereas 2% or milk with any cream in it won't?  That's why I like to use skim milk in my protein shakes.....they get thick.  The Almond Breeze gets thick as well and imparts the most amazing rich creamy flavor you can imagine.  I buy the unsweeted plain Almond Breeze and one cup has only 40 calories or 1 point.  So if you have a hankering for a Blizzard, try it out with any frozen fruit or berries of your choice (if they aren't frozen, it doesn't get very thick)

That said, I'm thinking I'm on to something here and I'm going to experiment with chocolate protein powder, almond milk,  a drizzle of chocolate syrup , natural bran and a few Smarties or pieces of Skor bar sometime soon.........I'll let you know how it worked out.

  1. MMMM SOUNDS SO GOOD. I THINK I WILL HAVE TO TRY THAT ONE DAY. I BOUGHT A NEW BULLET BLENDER FOR MAKING THINGS LIKE THAT BUT I'M ONLY GONNA OPEN IT AFTER I MOVE IN JUNE. MAYBE I CAN MAKE A HOUSE-WARMING "TREAT" FOR MYSELF.

  2. Oh my - I can see that I will be checking your recipes each day for new ideas :o) I froze lots of fruit at the end of last summer and have been wondering what to do with it!

I've not heard of Almond Breeze - but I'll check it out at the supermarket at the weekend. The bran idea was very clever. I often add a 'squirt' of honey for a little bit of sweetness.

    Yum, yum :o)
